Physics is the study of the interactions of matter and energy within time and space. Mathematics is very important to the field, as many physical relations are described by mathematical equations. Advanced mathematics (such as vector calculus and differential equations) are fundamental to the field. Many contributers of the field will have studied mathematics extensively before specialising in the field.
