Math Wiki:Namespaces

Please see Help:Namespace at Wikimedia's Meta-Wiki for background information, until we can get a description written up here.

As can be seen in the table below, every "non-talk" page has an associated "talk" page that can be reached by following a link or tab called "Discussion" or "MediaWiki:Talkpage".

Note: The link on each namespace prefix below is to a list of all existing pages within that namespace.

Namespace prefix	Purpose of namespace
(no prefix)	Articles relevant to the subject matter of this wiki (i.e., mathematics). Also known as the "main namespace" or "article namespace".
Talk	Discussion of the articles themselves. The purpose of the "talk pages" is to assist editors in developing quality articles, not general discussion and debate; for the latter see the Forum namespace (below).
User	Pages where users can identify and describe themselves to whatever extent they wish, and possibly work on articles or other relevant content before moving the information elsewhere in the wiki. These pages essentially act as "homepages" for our users, but they should not be used for personal material that has nothing to do with the subject matter of this wiki. The Mathematics Wikia is not a free web hosting service.
User talk	Discussion between individual users. Please try to keep the discussion relevant to this wiki. Take any other discussion to private e-mail or some other appropriate online forum.
Mathematics	Pages related to the Mathematics Wikia itself, not to the subject matter of the wiki. Use the main namespace (above) for articles about mathematics.
Mathematics talk	Discussion of the corresponding pages in the Mathematics namespace.
Project	A shorter alias of "Mathematics". Completely synonymous with that namespace.
Project talk	A shorter alias of "Mathematics talk". Completely synonymous with that namespace.
Image	Each uploaded image gets a corresponding page in this namespace where it can be described, including any relevant licensing information.
Image talk	Discussion of the corresponding pages in the Image namespace.
MediaWiki	Snippets of text and/or markup used by the MediaWiki software as part of the user interface. Because any changes to these pages are seen site-wide, only administrators can edit in this namespace.
MediaWiki talk	Discussion of the corresponding pages in the MediaWiki namespace. Regular users can edit these pages, but they might not get much attention from the admins. For now, it might be better to post a message at Forum:Mathematics Wikia.
Template	Snippets of text and/or wiki code that can be "included" in other pages. See Help:Template at Wikimedia's Meta-Wiki for more information.
Template talk	Discussion of the corresponding pages in the Template namespace.
Help	General "help" pages for issues not addressed in the Mathematics namespace.
Help talk	Discussion of the corresponding pages in the Help namespace.
Category	Classification system for grouping related pages. See Help:Category at Wikimedia's Meta-Wiki for details.
Category talk	Discussion of the corresponding pages in the Category namespace.
Forum	General discussion forums on mathematics and related topics.
Forum talk	Discussion of the corresponding pages in the Forum namespace.
