Factors are numbers that, when multiplied, become the number that is being factored. Example: Factor 12. 1 is a factor of every number. So we add 1 to our 12-factor list. Decimals cannot be factors, so we move on to 2. 12/2 = 6, so we add 2 and 6. The list so far is 1, 2 and 6. Moving on to 3! 12/3 = 4, so we add 3 and 4. The list so far is 1, 2, 3, 4 and 6. We already did 4 and 6, so we cannot do those numbers. 6 is half of 12, so we cannot move further. Here is the finished list (table edition):

List of factors of 12
Number Factor?
1 Yes
2 Yes
3 Yes
4 Yes
5 No
6 Yes
7 to 11 No
12 Yes

Now, Prime numbers are numbers with only 2 factors: 1 and itself.

Now, enjoy being a little smarter in math!
