My friend and i are doing a bet on who can solve this first aha:
Help. please.
Much appreciated! xp
Just take off the decimal points and multiply it the normal way. then when you have your answer, use place value to add the decimal point to whatever place value the point was at for the 2 original numbers.
E.g:
Question: 8.6 x 7.9 = ?
Method:
1) (Take off decimal points)
-> 86 x 79 = 6794
2) (Add the decimal point)
-> (8.6 has its decimal point at the tenth value and 7.9 also has it at the tenth.)
i.e. - 8.6 7.9
∧ ∧
(tenth) x (tenth) = (hundredth)
-> Add a decimal point to 6794 at its hundredth place value
So: 8.6 x 7.9 = 67.94
This is probably really confusing: I'm horrible at explaining :p
